iWork - why can't i get it free?

I first got to know about iWork products (Pages, Keynote, Numbers) when i bought my first iPad in 2010. I bought all 3 for my iPad. Beautiful products.

As time goes by, i bought a MacBook Pro in 2011 but thought there wasn't a bundle pricing for me to buy iWork online.

Then, as we know it, the newer MackBook Pro and all Mac products would come with free iWork softwares.

So as a loyal Apple customer, although i had bought my MBP back in 2011, can't i get free iWork as the new Apple customers too? What's stopping?

Cheers,

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)

The iWork for iOS apps are free for anyone who has activated an iOS device for the first time since September 1, 2013. If your iOS device is older than that you will have to purchase the apps or a new device.

The iWork for Mac apps are free for anyone who has purchased a new Mac October 1, 2013. The lastest, but definitely not better, versions are also free if you already have iWork '09 installed. If your Mac is older than that you will have to purchase the apps or a new Mac.

You can also purchase the iWork '09 retail box from a third party such as Amazon.com or eBay. If you do that, be sure to run Software Update before running any of the '09 apps to update them to the latest '09 version.

I agree...i am in the same boat

I got my 27 inch iMac in 2010, i also bought a pro book then....and iPhone 4S 5S and 6Plus...

But i can't get the Free Update on my iMac because its too old...and thus i can't use these apps in iCloud because they are not on my mac....

its really annoying so i have to keep using google apps as its a waste for me to BUY these apps when i plan to update my iMac when the new one comes out anyway.....

Surely Apple having my buying history on record....SURELY they could see hey this guy has spent more than 7 thousand dollars with us in the last 4 years..maybe we can let him have these for free now.....
