Hey Apple Fam,
I'm unable to change external hard drive icon, i tried to copy and paste the image to the "Get Info" straight into the icon (while its highlighted, blue color) it will change to a missing jpeg file and change back to the stock icon.

How is the drive formatted? I have seen this behavior when a drive was formatted in FAT rather than Mac OS Extended.

Not only that, but in Mavericks the icon is sometimes aqua and sometimes gold...... what do those colors mean? It is NOT associated with whether it's being time-machined.
just make sure that the file of the icon is actually located on your desktop or documents folder. and you can delete it after its been loaded
