Q: Can you add word, and power point to a mini the same way you can a regular i pad?

I have to buy my kids either a tablet or lap top for school. The only requirement is that it can play video and do word processing. I like how small the Mini is and I know you can play video on it, only the word, and power point only pulled up in the app store under i pad not i pad mini which makes me wonder. are all apps for the i pad compatable with the mini?
