Exchange Password

My university just switched our e-mail accounts to G-mail. I have been trying to set it up on my iPhone 5 but I keep hitting a wall. I go through the process in setting up the account... Just as google tells me to. Using exchange, m.google.com blah blah. At the end of the set up, it asks me for a password to "exchange". What is this? If i just click out of it and ignore it, another pop up comes up saying "cannot get mail - the connection to the server failed" WHAT DO I DO. how do i set up my email??

Thanks

The Exchange password is how you would access the Exchange server, which would be the password for your user, which would be your email password.

However, as Allan has indicated, and I had forgotten, Google has stopped supporting Active Sync on the iPhone for accessing Gmail as an Exchange account on the iPhone. You need to recheck with your university IT department, since I would imagine they have prepared for this issue with iOS devices.

Google stopped support Exchange accounts for free accounts, not paid ones. The University could still be using Exchange accounts.

That is true. I know that a number of educational institutions have changed over from hosting their own Exchange mail servers for students to a Gmail solution. They did it at the university where my son just graduated, however it was not set up as Exchange, they had to set it up as a regular Gmail account and fetch mail.

Some of them do it that way, some of them have university domain names and complicated processes for setting up the email. My usual advice is the same as yours and Allan's: Ask your IT department.

Best of luck.
