Are newer batches of MacBooks having RSD issues?

I just got a white 1.83 MacBook about a week ago. I was just wondering if I will have to look forward to the horrid possibility that my laptop will have a Random Shut Down. I need a laptop for school, and the Mac dude at the Apple Store told me that they only had one RSD case in their store. So just out of curiosity, I was wondering if my newly purchased laptop will have this problem. I wonder because it seems after all the posts I've read here, the RSD cases seem to occur with laptops bought at the start of summer, so I'm hopeful that mine has had all the kinks worked out from older batches of MacBooks.
F.Y.I. I have updated everything , even Mac OS 10.4.7
The computer seems to get pretty hot after light to moderate use. but no shutdowns. - Thanks for reading

So if even 'only' 10% of the MacBook owners out there experience RSDs, thats 100,000 very unhappy Mac users - or just about the number of people who bought an iBook last year...

😉

If you're trying to cull users from earlier Macs or, even more importantly, away from Windows, you had better have a really stable and well-built product (or initiate a well-advertised repair/replace program) or risk angering users.

So far Apple has done badly with MacBooks.

This is my first Mac. And it have been a nightmare!!!

My Macbook was delivered yesterday and I am going to a Mac retail shop right now to claim for a replacement otherwise Im going for a refund.

All this problems described by many people here about the overheating, shotting down the computer and it doesnt come back again after you press the start bottom I had just in few hours after I put it to charge.

Other thing very noticeable which I spoted immediatelly was how this combo DVD/CD was very noisy. On the top of that it didnt autorun any of mine dvd/programs I have tryied to run on it, incluinding my USB modem instal CD;it didnt reconise my ipod files and finally when I really was convinced that something was extremelly wrong with this machine was when trying to plug my guitar in the garageband it got stuck after few minutes recording.

I have filmed every problem I had this morning with a friends help, and finally we came to this forum to check how many people had the same problem. It might became a very nice short documentary to post at youtube or produce a very nice podcast using my two years old VAIO.

I am shure that Apple will be prompt helpfull towards my problems with it, but now the next question for my documentary is: HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

for the heat issue try the firmware update, other than that, as long as your machine doesnt exhibit any signs of trouble, dont sweat it and enjoy your mac. i would think that if indeed there is a revision to a specific part, namely the heatsink and LB in the macbooks, that later builds would not easily come across this problem in the numbers of the previous weeks. mine is a week 33 build, if that even makes a difference at all. but if my RSD blackbook gets the new heatsink and logicboard my repair slip promises, i would imagine the build week is meaningless after that.

Mine started with RSD on Monday.....not happy as I had 3 dodgy MBP's and downgraded to the newer Macbook to avoid the QC issues on the Pro.....first Macbook was poorly assembled....this one had been fine....and now this. I have had 3 laptop computers Dell/Toshiba/Sony...all nothing special...but no QC issues or random shut downs. Its (in my experiance) not that easy to buy a perfect or even acceptable portable computer bearing the Apple badge. Apple badly needs to sort out the quality of its hardware.....I am not amused!

im sorry your experience was poor, but keep in mind these intel macs are the first wave in apples transition, so its probably very likely theres lots of glitches that need to be ironed out. in retrospect i kinda wish apple ran a good number of these for a few months before releasing them into the wild.
