Is Apple Remote Desktop free?

I see that Apple Remote Desktop is an option in the sharing preference,
but the tutorial has a software setup screen.
How do I get it, and what does it cost, if anything, for an Intel iMac G5?

No it isn't. What you are looking at is where you set preferences to allow a remote user (Who has Apple Remote Desktop) to control your mac.

It costs £199 (10 user) in the UK and probably about $1.99 in the States (allowing for how expensive it is to sell software in Europe).
