Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and FireWire PCI Card and Deep Sleep possible?

Hi all,

Is it now finally possible to go into deepsleep with this (newer) card?

Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and FireWire PCI Card (3-USB 2.0 and 3-FireWire ports) Part # F5U508v1
http://www.usb-2-0.com/belkin-f5u508.html

I have the predecessor card, the simple 3port fw card from Belkin and it doesn't go into Sleep Mode. On the FAQ site of belkin for the older cards it says clearly "these cards don't support deep sleep". On the FAQ site for the newer card it did not say that, in fact there where NO FAQ's. (The site was temp down as well which seemed strange, there was a not on it that they where out of stock)

Anyway, so does anyone have this card installed and has his Mac going into deep sleep modus successfully

Danke für feedback

Audiomidittweaker, welcome, this is such a random issue, even if is successful on someone else identical Mac, that is no indication that it will be on your machine being that so much depend on what you plug into these cards. I have a Adaptec USB PCI card it supports sleep and deep sleep, as long as there is no jump drive, Flashdrive or any other device without it own power supply plug in while sleeping.

Maybe you have read this, it was once an on going post but I see it was last updated: 12/22/2005.

My advice would be to check out the chipset in that card, if is the same as the other then expect the same results.

yeah but I have nothing connected on my old one and it doesn't go to sleep, and it says in the FAQs at belkin it wouldnt. The new card however does NOT state that in its FAQs. And why is it that the internal card that comes with the mac (that unfortunately broke on mine) can go into deep sleep with ANY device I ever had it hoocked up with? Why do third party cards prevent deep sleep whilst the cards apple stick in there don't? Some magic trick?

When I talked to the Mac specialist at my local Mirco Center, he said, "Take one home try with on peripheral attached if it works keep it, if not bring it back". That's all I can tell you, there is no yes or no answer here.

Do a "sleep" search above and you will get enough material to fill a library, read it all and you will still not have a yes or no answer on this matter.

Also remember there are no standards for third party manufacturer to follow for making products for our computers.

I understand... thanks Joe.

Its maybe also less a generalized question than a simple one to a user of exactly mentioned card and G4 system: does it go to sleep? (let's say, without having anything connected?)
Due to the lack of mentioning anything in the FAQ's i'm trying to find positive user experiences with mentioned card...

regards (also) joe...

I just bought a 5-port Belkin USB card and have similar problems. I have found the computer deep sleeps if I remove all peripherals connected to the card. Beyond sleep issues, I'm not sure if the card works at all with anything that is not self-powered. I installed the card at pci slot 4, and I may move it back to slot 2 (next to video card) and see if it works better there. I didn't place the card at slot 2 in the first place because I was concerned about overheating-- it would be very close to the video card. I guess I'll take the advice above and start reading other discussions!

I had great success with the Belkin PCI USB 2.0 and Firewire cards. My quicksilver G4 sleeps and wakes every time since the installation. I have many peripherals attached... ipod via usb, older firewire ipod, canon camera, 2 scanners and a couple external HDs. I have yet to hit any peripheral power on/off combination that causes deep sleep problems with the 2 cards. Before trying the Belkins items, I had bad experiences with Sonnet and OWC cards in my quicksilver though the sonnet worked fine in an older G4 DA.

Mike Neuhaus,

Can you (or anyone else reading this thread) provide us with specific models of cards that are known to support deep sleep on Power Macs? For example, Mike N. mentioned he has had great success with a Belkin card in his QuickSilver--which specific model of card is being used there?

Thanks much,
MBJ
