Cannot connect my iPad 2 to my MacBook Pro Retina via iTunes

Good afternoon,

When I connect my iPad to my brand new MacBook Pro via the USB cable, the 'charging' icon apears for a SPLIT SECOND, then goes back to the normal battery icon, and repeats over and over and over and over..

And in iTunes, I get the error "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected" over and over.. it's as though it's picking up the iPad for a split second, then dropping the connection again.

  • I have tried two different USB cables, both of which work to charge the iPad when used in a plug socket instead.
  • I have tried re-installing iTunes.
  • I have cold-restarted the iPad.
  • I have restarted the Mac.
  • My iOS and OSX are both fully up to date.
  • The USB slots on my MacBook are fine as I'm using them to charge/sync my iPhone 5S, no problem.

I'm at a loss! Any help recommended. I've included a 5 second YouTube clip below of the battery icon flashing on/off.

Thanks,

Joe
