How can I disconnect from an SSH server in Terminal?

A few months ago, I connected to an SSH server via Terminal. It asked me if I wanted to add it to a list of known hosts, and I said yes. I tried disconnecting, and I thought it worked, but then when I next opened Terminal, it said the user was "server:~ <my name>". I tried restarting, quitting Terminal, deleting the contents of the "known_hosts" file and restarting, and nothing has worked.

I started a new Time Machine backup today, and it created the folder which should have been my username, but instead named it "server". What can I do to have the Terminal show the user as "<my name>:~ user", and have Time Machine put the user folder as my username?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

It looks like "server" is your hostname. You can verify that by typing "hostname" in Terminal. The command will answer with your current hostname.

Time Machine backups contain all files and folders of an entire computer. Time Machine does not back up individual users. So the backup name will reflect the host name, in your case "server", not your user name. The backup folder would be named "server.backupdb".
