I just got a Mac Pro to replace G5 Dual 2. I hooked it up and transferred using Firewire process...everything came peachy keen.....but when I access internet just like G5 using Airport Express to connect to LinkSys router and cable modem. I get between 100 and 400 Kbps download and 250 upload on the Mac Pro. My G5 still gets 3000-3500 as does my crappy old Compaq Laptop...all three using wireless. I am not comfortable just tweeking settings....so I thought I would ask for some help.
Thanks
Mine is pretty crappy also. Was much faster with my Dell and explorer but this may really be a Safari issue. I am just holding up on this site like crazy in particular
I'm having the exact same problem with my mac pro. My old g4 digital audio would get 2500-3000kbps down while my mac pro only gets 250kbps. Please help this is really annoying.
Upon further testing when I wired my internet connection I got back to normal speed.
I have another issue in that my Mac Pro will not recognize two additional SATA drives when I put them in. I migrated my machine (power to intel) which I am seeing on other posts can create problems. I may just pull all my data off and start over....I brag to family & friends how easy a mac is and now I am eating crow...
Are you guys going up and down in speed . that is what is happening to me. Right now it is good at the moment than for no reason i may just start spinning on a new site. This really is bothering me. i am using Linksys cable modem and a Belkin N pre router. Been thinking of getting the Air base station but it may not help.
likewise here. my Powerbook runs fine on my linksys NW - the mac Pro ( arrived yesterday ) either runs like a dog, or fails to connect to the wi fi network via the extreme card.
When i click on te wi fi icon in the menu bar it is also ver slow at displaying the menu list of networks available etc.

i don think is is a safari issue because i get problems trying to connect with Timbuktu as well. ( in fact it wont connect at all )
Well, it didn't work for me. This is getting insanely irritating. Can't seem to find a solution anywhere. A lot of people have this problem but no one have been able to solve it?
yup, same problem here. If I manage after several attempts to get a stable connection, speed is very slow and sometimes safari just takes a time-out for a few seconds. This is very annoying, I have no problems at all when I use my old G3 Pismo with sonnet's aria extreme.
I got a first Mac Pro from Apple Store on September 1st. I had to send it back due to the misfunction of the AirPort connection. I have an AirPort network with an AirPort Express base station and four PPC-macs functioning perfectly. From the beginning the Mac Pro connection (same rooms side on side with other Macs, for instance an iBook) had only one third of reception strength for the Internet and the speed for the connection with other computers in the same network (which I need badly) was in-cre-di-bly slow. Big jobs were'nt even finished correctly.
Yesterday (september 22th) I got a Mac Pro in replacement – exactly the same phoneomena. Serial Number is CK6370X2UPZ. Just as our Norwegian collegue expressed it: you could cry. I will send this one back, too, an wait for a month or so before I order a new one.
At the Apple Service they tend to tell you that you are the first one reporting such problems.
this is starting to sound like a fundamental hardware problem ( or at the very least firmware ) in the Airport.
Considering no one at Apple seems able to acknowledge this, if this isnt at the very least acknowledged as a problem- then maybe we should band together and go for a "class action" or something.
This is expensive kit. and to have to go through the time wastage of returns to store and waits for new equipment is an unnecessary cost for small business.
Anyone got any idea how one escalates this "up the chain" ?
