Connecting Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini to Macbook Pro?

I'd like to move media between my Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini and my Macbook Pro, but my mac isn't picking up my samsung when connected via the USB cable. Samsung says it's charging, but nothing more. HELP?!
