iPod is being updated for over an hour!!

I installed iTunes 7 and it prompted me to update my 5th Gen/30GB iPod software to 1.2. I completed the downloading of the software, but my iPod is being 'updated' for the past 1 hour!! There's no way it should take so much time!! I am now worried that it might damage my gadget. Anybody here who is facing a similar problem and has found a lasting solution?!!

After waiting for more than an hour, I disconnected the iPod from the system tray icon. Now my iTunes 7 is not recognizing the device. Guess I committed a mistake by hastily installing iTunes 7:-(

Somebody needs to help me please!!

well one of the things the new itunes does is update your library for "gapless playback" which can take a bit if it's doing other things, so i'm assuming if it was doing that AS you were updating your ipod, it's really likely that it was taking so long because of that.

as for it not recognizing your ipod now, have you ever had that problem before? because i know sometimes certain systems occasioanlly have problems randomly recognizing any usb connections. if you haven't already, try restarting and leaving it alone for a little while then try connecting it later. that usually works for me.

Hi AshJade and thanks for replying to my query. Everything went off peacefully last night and the problem got resolved. The 'Gapless playback' evaluation was completed long time before. Just that 'Updating Bhooshan's iPod' message wouldn't go for a freaking hour and a half.

The problem that I faced was a lag in updating my iPod software from version 1.1.2 to 1.2. Here's what I did:
1) Disconnected the iPod frustratingly from the system tray icon. Removed the USB connection from the iPod. The software had already updated itself to 1.2 by then. It's still a mystery why it took a lot of time.
2) Uninstalled iTunes 7 from the system and re-installed it again.
3)Plugged the iPod again and Voila! it recognised every bit and piece of my honey 🙂

I hope someone finds this article useful when faced with a similar situation. Cheers.
