I cannot edit calendar title and subtitle in iPhoto

I´m using iPhoto on my Macbook Air 2014 to create a calender for a friend. After choosing calendar theme the editing of title and subtitle can be opened, but no cursor is available. It is not possible, to change any text. Changing of pictures is no problem.

On my wife´s Macbook Pro with identical OS and iPhoto it works perfect.

Any idea?

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

If it does do the following:

1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your

User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.

2 - delete the contents the following folder:

User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto

User uploaded file

3 - reboot, open your original iPhoto library and try again.

NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

User uploaded file

where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

If it works in a different user account, there is not system wide problem, so reinstalling iPhoto or the system will be unlikely to help.

It is either one of the files in your user library (preferences, caches ) or the iPhoto library. Since the iPhoto library made no changes, quit iPhoto and try again to delete the files, Old Toad pointed out, plus ~/Library/Caches/iPhoto

Then restart the system.

Sorry, I did not post the full file name - faulty memory - I was at my iPad and not the Mac.

Try to remove

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto/

and restart.

When I uninstall/reinstall iPhoto, will I loose some important informations like face recognition? How do I uninstall iPhoto? Dragging to bin is enough?

Uninstalling iPhoto will not remove any photos or metadata tags, like faces and places, but I am sceptical, it will help, since iPhoto is working well in your other account.

Moving iPhoto to the Trash and downloading again from the AppStore should suffice.

I´ve tried your tipp as user Admin on my Macbook Air and it worked! So it must have something to do with my personal user account.

It could be a preference file in your account that's causing the problem. Here's how to test for that.

Trouble Shooting Preferences

NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

If you're running Mavericks, 10.9, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

User uploaded file

1 - close all applications.

2 - open your Home/Library folder and Option-drag (copy) the Preferences folder to the Desktop.

3 - select the contents of your Home/Library/Preferences folder and drag them into the Trash bin in the Dock. You will be asked to provide your Admin password.

4 - reboot. Be sure to know your account's username and password as you will be asked to log in with it.

5 - run the application again and determine if the problem(s) is fixed.

6 - If the problem is fixed:

A - open the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.

B - Open the Preferences folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.

C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace or Skip button.

D - reboot.

7 - If the problem is NOT fixed, drag the contents of the Preference folder on the Desktop into the Home/Library/Preference folder and replace the entire contents that were created by clicking on Replace.

8 - reboot and you're back as square one.

Note: keep the Preference folder on the desktop until you're sure all registration info for your apps are working. If not you can copy the required files from the desktop pref folder to the working one.

Good news! Up to step 5 it looks very good. After having emptyed my home preferences folder iPhoto´s behavior is as desired, I am able to edit title and subtitle of calender.

But after having copied (skipped) the backup of the preferences folder from desktop back to home preferences folder the problem is there again. One or some of the preference files is/are responsible for my problem. do you have an idea how to identify it?

Did you replace the new preference folder with the entire old one or just those items that were not already present in the new folder, i.e. used the Skip or Don't Replace option with the Apply to All checkbox checked as shown below?

If it's the latter and the problem is back, you can repeat the test and continue to use your Mac with the new Preference folder as it is created. You may have to redo the preferences for your other apps, Finder, etc.

I have used the Skip or Don´t replace option, it was not my fault. Unfortunately I have not much time these days and I have to create a calender for a friend. Therefore I will make this on one of the other Macs in my household.

I believe I have to purge the preferences folder later again and to rebuild all preferences. Thank you all so far!

Hi folks,

update from my site: I have created a new account on my MacBook Air and now iPhoto calendar editing works fine. Everything else also is functioning without any problem, although I had to reactivate some apps with my former credentials. There will be still some fine tuning here and there, but overall creating a new account instead of repairing the old one is the easier way at least.

Thank you all again for your help an thoughts!
