    Please clarify some details.

     

    What version OS X do you have installed? You posted in Mountain Lion but your product info says 10.5.3.

     

    What type of account(s)? (POP, IMAP, Exchange)

     

    What email provider? (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Earthlink, Comcast, ATT, other)

     

    Do you have backup like Time Machine or clone backup?

    Yosemite 10.10.5 - Don't how how I posted in Mountain Lion when my system is Yosemite.

    Comcast POP

    Thousands of emails vanished today from Inbox, Sent box, Trash - many very valuable history of conversations. I was on the line with Comcast Support when it happened. The agent said she was doing some resetting, but Comcast says there is nothing they can do, that it's an Apple Mail problem. This is a real problem. Can someone help?

    Are you storing the eMails on the Server or not?

     

    Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

     

    Reboot normally… any change?

    Try rebuilding the mailbox.

     

    Rebuild mailbox

     

    If that doesn't work, try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

     

    Reindex messages        For El Capitan, try looking in V3.
