Q: OSX 10.5.8 to Mavericks?

Hello,

My July 2009 MacBook is currently running the same OSX 10.5.8 it came with. If I purchase Snow Leopard from the Mac store online and install it, will I be able to then install Mavericks OSX 10.9?

If I can, what will happen exactly? I have iLife and iWork installed. Do they update to the correct spec automatically? Will I need to do it manually? Will I have to pay to do it, or, indeed, for anything after the initial £14 for Snow Leopard?

Also, will all my files stay unharmed on my laptop or will I need to back them up, etc?

I kind of have the feeling that no Mac that can run 10.5.8 is capable of running Mavericks, but check. Everymac.com is a good site to see what your exact model Mac can do.

Yes, you can.
OSX Mavericks: System Requirment:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

iLife as well as iWork will update to the latest.

Files remain as it is, though you'd better back them up.
