Q: FCE 4-0-1 crashes after start on new SSD

Hi,

I copied the FCE to my new SSD and also copied two plugins to places where FCE showed error messages. Finally FCE started and I could register with the installation key successfully.

Unfortunately then it crashes and I can see this message in the system logs:

Final Cut Express[602]: objc[602]: Class ProMetadataQTMDStorage is implemented in both /Users/rolandmaison/Desktop/Final Cut Express.app/Contents/Frameworks/MIO.framework/Versions/A/MIO and /Users/rolandmaison/Desktop/Final Cut Express.app/Contents/MacOS/Plugins/QTM Reader.bundle/Contents/MacOS/QTM Reader. One of the two will be used. Which one is undefined.

Repair of user rights doesnt help. I renamed the named  MIO to MIO_old ==> new failure message  then renamed it back and renamed QTM in the same way. That does not help.

I think some other sources are still missing - but have no idear which one. Unfortunately I don't find my original installation media any more.

Any suggestions are very welcome. Maybe there is another way to migrate it from the old HDD to the new SSD?

My System: Mac Pro 3.1 Early 2008 running on OS 10.9.3

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

To have things work properly, you can't just copy the FCE application.  There are too many files that need to be installed within the system ... it has to be installed from the original installer disc (or disc image).

That what I guess too. Thanks

Is there an easy way to get new installation media?

Opening a tickert at apple care costs 50 bucks and gives no hint if I can get new media. I have the key and can register anytime. Other programs can be downloaded - but I found no way to get FCE that way.

Unfortunately, Apple discontinued FCE (and legacy FCP) in June of 2011.  The only way it was ever available was on disc; there were no downloads other than occasional updates.  You'll need to use the original install discs.

If you don't mind learning a new workflow, FCP-X is available as a download from the App Store ($299 USD) or you could try Adobe Premier Elements.

Well - reading about FCPX doesnd look like a very great enhancement compared to FCE. Seems I must finish my current video projects from the HDD until I find a friend who gives me an installation media.

Befor upgrading to a new cutting SW I must be sure all cores of my mac pro are used. FCE doesnt.

I am also having this problem on my 2007 iMac. I have never swapped hard drives, but I just now found out upon trying to open FCE that it appears the program is corrupt. Oh well. Guess I'll have to reinstall from the disc and start from scratch.
