Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.

Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.

The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

You have mired your computer down with applicaiton's that will only harm the performance and add no value. You have not one but two antivirus apps Kapersky & Symantech both are worthless and killing performance. Immediately follow the developers uninstall instructions and get rid of both apps. Also uninstall the WD applicaitons you have install, they are also worthless and will hurt performance.

OS X is NOT like MS Windows, anti-virus software is not necessary and in most cases causes more problems than they solve. WD apps are also unnecessary and will also tend to cause problems.DO NOT install any anti-virus apps, any performance apps, or the like.

You have installed Norton, which is notorious for its ability to bring a perfectly healthy Mac to its knees. Uninstall it immediately! If removing your anti-virus software makes you nervous, see my Mac Malware Guide. It's important to understand how to protect yourself anyway... without that knowledge, anti-virus software just gives you a false sense of security. Be sure to uninstall it properly. (See How to uninstall software.)

You also have some Western Digital software installed. That needs to go as well. Software that comes bundled with a hard drive is not needed and should never be installed. In the case of Western Digital, some of their software causes problems - including potential data loss - in Mavericks. The Iomega software should go as well.

You have quite a few other kernel extensions as well, and any of these could be causing problems.

You installed a brand new hard drive in your iMac and proceeded to load it up, again, with a lot of crap and garbage.

Pare down you user login/startup items.

You have too many and some are useless like the WD Stuff. Get rid of it!

Add or remove automatic items

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
  2. Select your user account, then click Login Items.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Click Add ➕ below the list on the right, select an app, document, folder, or disk, then click Add.If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)
    • Select the name of the item you want to prevent from opening automatically, then click Delete ➖ below the list on the right.

Personally, Google Drive is garbage on OS X Mavericks. Users are still complaining about issues with Google Drive even on the latest version of OS X Mavericks.

Ditch Google Drive and do a search find some other alternatives to Google Drive.

Until Google can get Its Drive app to function well and properly on Mavericks, I would completely uninstall Google Drive per the instructions on Google's website and keep it off of your Mac for the near future.
