RAID causes Mac Pro to beep?

ok if its kinda like a hi pitch scream
it sould be the disk spining up and then stoping very quickly

idd back up everything cause it sounds like shes gonna blow (crash)

had this with my old (well only 1 year old)IntelPC the sata 1 died and i rember hearing the scream for about 2 weeks befor hand then it wouldnt come up

What make and model hard drives to you have?

Mine (not in the pro) where segate and a WD sata 1

the Segate was 120 and the WD wat 150 both suffed the same fait

Have you actually identified where the beeps are coming from? The drives or the logic board? Somewhere else?

Then you might want to disconnect as many uneeded items such USB/FireWire devices and your speakers to see if you can then isolate the issue to within the Mac Pro rather than being cause by something external to it.

Having external speakers won't necessairly silence the internal speaker. I have external speakers on my Quad-G5, but the internal speaker still emits the startup sound...

I added 2 disks that I RAIDed and I got some wierd sound aswell, but it sounds more like vrooom, vrooom, vrooom, vrooom....

The disks are Maxtor 300GB D-10 SATAII 16MB

System runs on the default drive. The machine also has alot of vibration.

I too am encountering this problem, although it is fairly infrequent. I am using speakers via the analog audio jack and I can verify that the sound is coming from somewhere inside the machine.

I don't have a RAID setup, just a few external drives.

I just got a new MacPro 3GHZ at work and occasionally it will beep and it is coming from inside the machine and not through the speakers. I have no RAID. It has 2GB RAM, bluetooth, Airport and a 500GB drive built by Apple.

Same here, no RAID though.

i just got my MacPro today. It beeps too. i first heard the beep when i turned the system on and then found that my superdrives did not work... this was becasue i had installed another one when the machine arrived and failed to set the new Superdrive to cable select.

i took the beep to be indicating that something was amiss with the system, and sure enough it was. Easy enough to fix, however.

Then, just now, i heard it beep again, this time i have no clue as to why. i came on here to see if anyone else knew... As it is, i am thinking the beeping indicates some sort of error or other.
