Macbook Pro Retina 2013 shutting down all the time

Hi,

I've read a few other threads of similar situations. Is there any way of testing the Huwai Modem to see if its causing the problem without having to reinstall the whole OS, applications and all my data first, which was suggested by Apple Support.

Thanks,

Ros

Is the Huwai modem connected via WiFi (Airport, 802.11b/g/n), USB or ethernet to the computer?

If by WiFi or USB try connecting by ethernet.

Ethernet tends to need less drivers.

Also many third party USB devices do not support Energy Saver of the Mac, and will baulk if the lid is closed, or Energy Saver turns on.

If you can run the machine off the internet and get issues, then you can probably run the hardware test with the original installer discs to see if hardware is at issue:

Though RAM can be at issue, and it still not be detected. If you bought RAM for it, you'll want to make sure it was purchased for that age of MacBook Pro, and not by the spec, and not ValueRAM.

http://www.crucial.com/http://www.datamem.com/ and http://www.macsales.com/ offer RAM by age of Mac.

The Mac is old enough to need a replacement PRAM battery as well.

Hi Brody, and thanks for your reply. I got my computer new from the Apple Store 13 days ago, preinstalled with 16G RAM. The machine is shutting down while I am using it, not during sleep mode, while energy saver is on, or from waking up. The modem is connected by USB. Does connecting by ethernet mean connecting by fixed broadband? If so, I don't have this possibility. I need to check if this happens whenI'm not connected to the internet. I need to read about the Apple Diagnostics Test. It shut down twice today, and at least 6 times prior to that in the past 10 days. Oh, and there are no installer disks for Mavericks preinstalled OS and no disk drive on the Macbook Pro Retina.
