Jun 17, 2014 3:06 PM in response to Freezermaleby MadMacs0,You've had lots of suggestions but I don't see any response, so I'll offer one more.
Sophos has two featured specifically designed to check your web browsing experience so it should not be a surprise that this will slow that down for you. Just open Sophos Preferences->Web Protection and you will see what they do and exactly how to disable one or both. To some extent the first one is already being done by many web browsers, so depending on what you use and whether you have protection already enabled there, this one may be redundant. You can also use "Allowed Websites" to prevent it from working at sites you visit all the time and only use it for sites you rarely visit.

Jun 17, 2014 3:13 PM in response to MadMacs0by WZZZ,MM0, I already suggested turning the web features off. FYI: those web features don't slow down my browsing appreciably. Maybe a tiny bit of lag, but nothing to write home about. But YMMV.

Turns out it does. Depends to some extent on the website (and possibly the OS) but it was noticable and burdonsome. I'm still waiting for the first time Sophos finds a zero-day before we all stumble across it somewhere else.

Jun 18, 2014 3:13 AM in response to MadMacs0by Freezermale,Seems I started a bit of a hornet's nest but it has been an education reading all of the responses. I want to thank everybody who has responded, particularly MichelPM, WZZZ and Linc Davis. Your reply was also helpful. I am step-by-step turning off features in Sophos and definitely following the advice given by Linc Davis in being more aware of what I am doing on the internet. I have one item of 'cracked' software that I use regularly but I will investigate ways of replacing that with a legal version.
Thanks again.
