Can I update my macbook pro early 2011 to use bluetooth 4.0

Is there any way that I'm able to update my MacBook so I'm able to use Bluetooth 4.0?

Yes, you definitely need iOS 8 to make Handoff/Continuity work. There is no Handoff capability in iOS 7.

That being said, sounds like you're not an active developer, so I'd definitely suggest waiting until the official releases of iOS and OS X this fall. If you're not a developer, you're likely to run into much more headache than it's worth just to get these features a tiny bit early.

Dude, you answered yourself.

Here's what is going on : You did install a card that needs AirPortBrcm4360.kext to work, but Mavericks loads AirPortBrcm4331.kext.

You have to patch AirPortBrcm4360.kext (disable id check, or add you mac id to the whitelist).

But you would install Yosemite first, cause if you install it after patching, you'll have to start from the beginning, in order to benefit Handsoff and continuity.

Hi guys, I'm italian so sorry for the english...however, I read all the posts and I'm happy to understand that there's a way to do the BT update.

But now I have a question: where can I buy the BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX? Because I checked on ebay and now there isn't this card.

Do you know another place where I can buy it? I don't know, a china site, something like that.

Thanks

You can find instructions on how to "hack" your own file here. I can not host the file, and the one I am using has been "hacked" by me using the same instructions.

You will need your board ID, which you can get by typing the following into terminal:

var_ID=$(ioreg -p IODeviceTree -r -n / -d 1 | grep board-id);var_ID=${var_ID##*<\"};var_ID=${var_ID%%\">};echo $var_ID

Unfortunately no. I think the cards are okay, as we have bluetooth LE showing up. I think maybe the problem lies in that we are using public beta 2 not a developer build. But that wouldn't explain the fact that its not even working in mavericks with the latest .kext?? I've given up for now and put the original card back in before I do some damage😕

Got mine from ovolink. You might be right about the card being faulty. Others have installed the new card and have wifi showing up in Mavericks without making any changes to the system files. Someone else is experiencing the same problem a few pages back from your post on Macrumors...he has bluetooth working but no wifi also. So I'm still hopeful someone might be able to resolve this issue.

I'm sorry to do this, but now I feel a little confused. Will the card that raphh11 bought also work for a 15" late 2011 macbook pro? Or do I need to order the "4CAX" version from the other site? This will be my first mod (not by myself, with someone who knows what they are doing) but I would like to not have to deal with buying the wrong part! Thanks so much.
