Can you make a summary from the steps you've made? :-)

    1. What's next is a simple "How-to" upgrade your early and late 2011 MacBook Pro to benefit from Handoff and Continuity.
    2. You need latest Yosemite DP and ios beta.
    3. I take no responsibility if you broke anything during the process, or if you misred those few lines.
    4. Do not try this if you rely on your Mac, i mean really !!! Yosemite is yet to be fully debugged and replacing your BT/Wifi board can be a nightmare.
    5. Always clean your area, before opening you Mac.
    6. Read, then read and when you're done reading, then read again !!!
    7. Learn how to replace your board from iFixit and replace it : https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Unibody+Early+2011+AirPort-Blue tooth+Board+Replacement/5886
    8. Download this modified .kext for Yosemite DP5 : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3677670/IO80211Family.kext.zip
    9. Open Terminal and enter this command ( Enable modified .kext load ) : sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"
    10. Reboot.
    11. Go to Finder, Press Shift+CMD+G and paste /System/Library/Extensions
    12. Manually delete IO80211Family.kext
    13. Reboot
    14. Your WiFi will not load as no driver installed for now.
    15. Go again to Finder, Press Shift+CMD+G and paste /System/Library/Extensions
    16. Paste the modified .kext you downloaded "Step 7" in Extensions folder.
    17. Open Terminal and paste those Commands, one at a time (some may take some time) :
    18. sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext
    19. sudo chmod -R 644 /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext
    20. sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
    21. sudo kextcache -system-caches
    22. Reboot
    23. Now the easy part, Make sure Your Mac and your iPhone are logged in to the same iCloud id.
    24. Make sure Both Messages and Facetime are logged in to the same iCloud id, on Both Yosemite and ios 8 (the same you choose at Step 23).
    25. Disconnect from iCloud on Yosemite and ios 8.
    26. Disconnect from Messages and Facetime on Yosemite and ios 8.
    27. Restart your devices
    28. Log in with id you choose Step 23 and step 24.
    29. Voilà, you should be able to benefit from AirDrop, Handoff and Continuity.

Dude, i said read, then read, and when you are done reading, then read again.

You misred the command to type. Read carefully, or you'll be very disappointed when something very bad will happen.

Copy and and paste will do the job.

Hi guys, I'm italian so sorry for the english...however, I read all the posts and I'm happy to understand that there's a way to do the BT update.

But now I have a question: where can I buy the BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX? Because I checked on ebay and now there isn't this card.

Do you know another place where I can buy it? I don't know, a china site, something like that.

    Thanks

    Hi Sir

Would you mind repost the link for the kext file which you modified cos the current one can not access already.

    Thx

You can find instructions on how to "hack" your own file here. I can not host the file, and the one I am using has been "hacked" by me using the same instructions.

You will need your board ID, which you can get by typing the following into terminal:

    var_ID=$(ioreg -p IODeviceTree -r -n / -d 1 | grep board-id);var_ID=${var_ID##*<\"};var_ID=${var_ID%%\">};echo $var_ID

    Hi guys,

did someone of you try the procedure (kext file) on Yosemite beta 2?

I don't know why, but the wifi card doesn't show up...while the bluetooth does and it shows me Bluetooth LE enable.

    Thanks

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem.  Have installed the 'CAX' card, followed the instructions and installed latest .kext. Status bar is showing no wifi card installed but have bluetooth LE showing up in system prefs.  This is on a late 2011 MBP 17" running Yosemite beta 2.

Hope someone can offer some help?

    Thanks.

Exactly...do you still have this problem? Now I'm thinking that the card might be broken... if you have news please tell me

Unfortunately no.  I think the cards are okay, as we have bluetooth LE showing up.  I think maybe the problem lies in that we are using public beta 2 not a developer build.  But that wouldn't explain the fact that its not even working in mavericks with the latest .kext??  I've given up for now and put the original card back in before I do some damage

But I can't understand why it's happened only to me and you I don't think that is the Beta 2 the problem, other people tried the card with this beta and they said that it worked. Where did you buy the card? I did it on eBay from ibyqparts

Got mine from ovolink.  You might be right about the card being faulty.  Others have installed the new card and have wifi showing up in Mavericks without making any changes to the system files.  Someone else is experiencing the same problem a few pages back from your post on Macrumors...he has bluetooth working but no wifi also.  So I'm still hopeful someone might be able to resolve this issue.
