Videos fail to process in YouTube, Google says its Apple iPhoto problem

Problem:

Youtube OR iPhoto is taking a preview 'reference movie' file and not the actual video file when uploading therefore causing an issue when uploading to Youtube.

To make this easier, please read the Google message board thread I posted below regarding this issue. I initially thought it was a YouTube issue but was told it was Apple problem w/iPhoto. All my software specs, along with my video details are there as well.

Basically, whenever I go to youtube, click upload, choose the video file in iPhoto to upload, it now fails to process. Youtube then tells me an error that says the video is in an incorrect format. I've been uploading videos to Youtube this way for many, many years and now it has stopped working.

Here is the Google thread -

Thanks for your help!

There is no way to upload a video/movie file that's in an iPhoto library dirtily from the YouTube upload window in your browser. This is all you get:

User uploaded file

There is no access to the files in any iPhoto Library since iPhoto 6 from outside iPhoto. One must export the video out of iPhoto via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original. In some earlier versions of iPhoto and the system dragging the video from the open iPhoto window to the Desktop or anywhere else would give you only the first frame of the movie which is what you apparently were experiencing.

Yes, yes, that's what is happening (I am uploading a first frame version of the movie) and what I did to get it to work (Kind=original).

But this is where I am confused. Above you include a photo and say:

Here is what I see when I click upload and how I've been uploading videos to Youtube since day 1 -

User uploaded file

I find the video, click it and then it uploads. Or used to.

Does that make sense?

Toad,

I am using latest Chrome, version 35.0.1916.153 and my current iPhoto is 9.5.1. I also tried to upload in Firefox and I had the same issue. My Mac OS is 10.9.3. Like someone suggested in the YouTube/Google thread - could this be an issue with Maverick?

I just can't imagine having to now go to the video I want in iPhoto, export it to my desktop, upload it, then move that file back into the previous file location. My head is exploding as to why and how this is now happening.

I figured it out. When you click 'upload' on youtube.com, a button in the center of the page that says to 'Select Files to Upload' or 'Drag & Drop Video Files'. I took the file/thumbnail preview in iPhoto and dragged it onto my browser where the youtube.com upload page is. Bam, it started uploading. Don't ask me why but it's back to working normally.
