Each time you want to add a new song, you need to find the song and drag it into the Regular Playlist. Any new songs added to your iTunes Library, that you want in the Regular Playlist have to be manually added by you. You would need to add each song individually. By the same token, you would need to remove each song individually as well.
- Smart Playlist: you create a set of rules for a Smart Playlist and any song that matches the rules is added to the Playlist by iTunes itself, not you. But you still have overall control. In this case, if you add a new song (or several) to your iTunes Library that matches the rules of a particular Smart Playlist, iTunes does the work of adding the song to that Smart Playlist.
In the situation you originally outlined to us, and if you created the Smart Playlist I suggested, then when you add a new song to your iTunes Library with the Genre of (for example) Afro-beat, but you also wanted it to be in your Smart (genre) Playlist named Acid Jazz Plus, all you need to do after adding the song to the Library is type "Acid Jazz Plus into the Grouping box of the song. iTunes will then add the song to your Smart Playlist Acid Jazz plus. The advantage to you is that the Smart Playlist can make it easier and quicker to add, or move several songs at once into and out of Playlists.

Jun 22, 2014 3:50 PM in response to ryane84by turingtest2,You can edit a song in either type of playlist. If you have a smart playlist then membership of the playlists is determined by the tag properties. Depending on the change you make you can cause a song to be removed from the smart playlist. E.g. if the rules are based on the genre of the songs and you change the genre then it may no longer match with the rules.

I can edit a song in my regular playlist so how canI edit it ddifferent in a smart playlist?
ryane84,
Just try the Smart Playlist and forget about editing the songs unless my instructions tell you to. And do not attempt to change the Genre field!
