Album Covers for CD Music?

According to Jobs, the iTunes music store will allow a person to download the album cover for iTunes 7 cover browser even if one has just downloaded it off the CD rather than bought it at the iTunes Store.

IF, of course, one has an account with the store.

I do have an account. I want to download album covers for some music I downloaded off the CD rather than off the music store. Anyone know how to do this?

Album covers apparently do download automatically.
Quite amazing, but they take time.

I couldn't get this to work on two different Mac's (an Intel and a PowerPC). I'd right click on the track or set of highlighted tracks, go to "Download Album Art". It'd then pop up the disclaimer thing, and I clicked to continue, and nothing happened! Yes, I was logged into my iTunes account at the same time too. What the heck? How do I fix this?

Thanks all.

One problem I'm having is that I'm in the UK and while I do have a UK store account, the artwork is downloading from the US store so when the cover art is different in the US I get the wrong covers. I find this particularly annoying when I have the actual CDs and I find that the iTunes the cover art is completely different. Luckily I had already taken the time to put most of the cover art in manually with iTunes 6 but it would be nice to put some better quality images in for some of them.

Surely the cover art feature should look at our local store first and get it from there if at all possible.

Btw, I'm probably being a bit thick but I can't find any way to start a new topic in these forums but I can reply to existing ones just fine. What am I missing?

I totally agree and I spotted this myself. See http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3112347 (being that you are from England yourself you will particularly like the third message in that thread) 🙂

I have also found that while purchased iTunes tracks contain 600x600 pixel sized artwork, when you use the "Get Album Art" command you only get 300x300 pixels which is better than nothing but a big disappointment. I will therefore due to these many problems be sticking with Amazon and Google Images as sources of artwork.

PS. You have to be in the list of threads in a forum to create a new thread, if you are in a list of messages in a thread then you merely get the reply option.

Thanks for the link and I'm glad others are noticing the problem. I've submitted feedback to ask for it be changed to work the way we want it to.

I hadn't noticed the size difference of the images and that is disappointing.

Incidentally I noticed that Amazon seems to have changed the way they dislay the covers so that the images appear in a white frame now which is a pain.

Oh and I clearly was having a thick moment regarding how to post new topics.

I found it - click "Advanced" then Get Album Artwork" (when you're on a good Internet connection).

I had to quit and restart once during the middle, it "hung" a bit.

But now, with a few exceptions, I have almost all the album covers. Pretty cool.

why would u need a billing account? does finding
artwork cost money or a small fee. please reply ASAP

philmaicock-

I was just as startled as others when I just downloaded some album art for my own CDs (purchased at retail). Curious why I had to log into my account, I immediately checked that "My Account" hadn't been charged (it had not).

So, why would a billing account be required to obtain what is currently a free service? One person's guess: The probability of any iTunes user purchasing anything from the iTunes Store increases dramatically if they already have an account established. So, if Apple wants to increase their iTunes Music Store market share (duh), and can get millions of iTunes users to establish a billing account just by giving away 300KB image files ... Catch my drift?
