If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

I can access the internet and even browse the iTunes Music Store, but cannot sign in and get an error message that says
iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was refused.

If I insert a CD to import, I get an error message that says Unable to conect to the CDDB server. The network connection was refused.

    Here is my diagnostic :-

I am also having this problem. I just installed iTunes 7 (since iTunes 6 would not let me download the first episode of season 3 of "The Office" until I upgraded). At first I could browse the store, but any download I attempted gave errors. Now (less than an hour later) I can't access the store at all, it's as if my ethernet cord was not connected (but it is, since I can browse the web, and see stuff that was added to websites very recently... including THIS forum).

I click on "iTunes Store" on the left navigation thingy (under STORE, above "Purchased"), I type "the office" on the top right field, I click Enter, and the display in the middle of the top of the window says "Accessing iTunes Store" for several seconds with the horizontal bar full of those little diagonal lines moving around. Eventually I get an error saying

We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred.(-50). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later.

If I click on iTunes Store (at the very top of the window near the left) and "Check Purchases", same thing: "Accessing iTunes Store" with the horizontal bar full little diagonal lines, then this error:

There was a problem downloading "Gay Which Hunt / The Office, Season 3 / The Office". An Unknown error occurred (-50). Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again.

Try again I did. With the firewall off an on, turning iTunes off and on, even turned my router off and on, then did all these things in all the different possible permutations, still nuttin'.

I have already paid for a The Office season pass, and I want my episode!!!

I have Norton firewall, but I too reconfigured my personal firewall to permit all iTunes requests. I even turned the firewall off altogether, but this did not help (so I hurriedly turned it back on).

*** is going on, everything looks fine... Grrr...

    And here's my diagnostic:

Never mind, now it's working. I don't know why. I turned iTunes off and on again (for like the millionth time) and this time it somehow magically started downloading the episode. My firewall is even on!

Except now iTunes froze and refuses to respond to my mouse clicks. My Process Manager "Processes" tab shows it's using up huge amounts of memory. But the episode is downloading (that new "Downloads" thing is nice) so I'll let it finish before Ctrl-Alt-Delete and force iTunes to close.

After I download this episode, I'm re-installing iTunes 6! Good thing I backed up my entire "My Music" folder (all 20 gigs of it) before getting the new iTunes 7...

If I insert a CD to import, I get an error message that says Unable to conect to the CDDB server. The network connection was refused.

Chris, by way of experiment, try shutting down that Windows Firewall, and trying an import. do you get a CDDB connection? (trying here to work out if it's something to do with the Windows Firewall, rather than suggesting this as a long term fix.)

okay, since you're getting your -50 when you try to download a video we'd better give the technique from this document a try:

iTunes Music Store: Error (-50) when downloading purchased videos

hmmmmm. are you connecting to your network via the wireless card or the other connection, subyforever?

if it's by the wireless connection, try repairing your wireless connection. if it's via the other one, try repairing that network connection.

    does that help?
  • Chris123456 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)
Thanks for your input, b noir.

I followed your instruction and turned off the firewall, entered a cd (The Killers - Hot Fuss) and it looked as if it would work... Up in the top of the iTunes screen it said "Accessing CDDB, Querying Database" but then a screen came up that said "The song names for this CD could not be found online. Do you still want to import the songs?"

I used a CD I know is in Gracenote CDDB, but haven't had any luck as you can see.
