Running OS X Mavericks.

One of our colleagues (I work at IT support) can't open multiple Finder windows using the same server connection.

He connects via 'connect to a server', and can open one window.

Then he clicks File > New Finder Window, and then that new window keeps turning 'trying to connect'.

But the connection is there, because when he closes the window that can't log on, the other (already connected) Finder window closes as well.

I tested it myself on my own macbook (running 10.9 as well), and it works fine. Tried it on the user's macbook, and it keeps failing.
Already tried afp, smb and cifs. None of them make a difference.

Searched online and can't find anything related either. Seems to be an isolated issue but can't pinpoint the cause.
Any help?
