iMac (PPC) with isight, OS 10.5.8/problems with Safari and verification of identity of websights.

Hello out there! I have an iMac (PPC) with isight and 20" screen. My Os is 10.5.8 (as far as I can go) My Safari version is 5.0. 6. I have continued to get messages when I try to open certain websites that say: "Safari can't verify the identity of the sebsite...then the address of the website is given.

The Certificate for this sebsite was signed by an unknown certifyig authority. You might be connecting to a website thais pretending to be...then it gives website address.....which could put your confidential information at rist. Would you like to connect to this website anyway? " I usually hit continue. However, with more and more security breaches I decided to see what I could do. I opened the certificate and then followed some directions that said always accept. I did look at some of the certificates and some of them had expired and others looked like they had expired and had been renewed. I am wondering if someone could guide me as to what to do and is this ideed a security issue.

Web browsers for PowerPC Macs, running OS X 10.4.11 to OS X 10.5.8 are rather limited

in availability, and Flash player support is also limited to what one may acquire from the

Adobe Flash player archived versions for older systems. Read through the Adobe help

page 'installation problems' thoroughly before download or installation.

Some browsers for PowerPC Macs, G4/G5:

The iCab web browser is fairly good, but if you do not buy a license, you will occasionally

see a prompt to buy a license; prompt will fade away after awhile. http://www.icab.de/dl.php

The TenFourFox browser, by default, does not let Flash player work. It is possible to work

around that limitation; I use this often and for me it poses no problems. It does support

most web site that uses other animation technologies such as HTLM5 for youtube, etc.

Note there are several builds listed http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/

SeaMonkey for PPC browser (another mozilla based build) has some support in there are

occasional updates to the software. This runs on PowerPC G5 only, at this time. There is

another SeaMonkey build for Intel versions, they are not current for PowerPC Macs.

With the last supported Flash player installed, there is a way to allow a patch or update

to that installed version to fool the browsers into running it as a later version 11.5. This

has its own instructions and does not upgrade Flash to the most recent, though.

{a brody: Hopefully this helps the original poster, somewhat.}

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
