"Date Modified" changes in iTunes 11

Hi. I'm running iTunes 11 on a Windows 7 machine. I've noticed that after I close iTunes and reopen it, some of my music files get their "Date Modified" changed as soon as I play the track. This wouldn't be a problem if it happens once, but for some tracks (especially tracks I've purchased) it happens several times. One track changed three times in three days--so it's like whatever settings I created on the track don't hold (sometimes I modify the title, the artist's name or the year--and they end up reverting back to the way they were before, then I play the track and the settings change to the way I modified it). It's almost like something else is modifying the files without my knowledge.

Weird, I know. Can anyone advise how I can keep the settings? Thanks!

Doug

To be honest, I don't really know enough about the cloud or match. I suspect that is your problem though. If you have your music in the cloud, then presumably the iTunes Store is renewing the information each time you access it, thereby undoing any changes you've made. On the tracks that keep getting changed, have you downloaded them to your computer or are you simply playing them directly from the cloud? It may help to download them instead.

I also suggest that you check these discussions for any other posts about this issue. Currently there are no similar posts listed at the bottom of this page, but that may simply be as a consequence of the recent update Apple has made to these discussions. I'm still trying to work out how to get the best from these changes. Unfortunately, I have no greater inside knowledge than you regarding the changes.

Hi Steve,

Now I have received an email headed You have been mentioned and the link (view turingtest2's reference to you) at the start of the email takes me to this discussion. The link in the email itself (the fiend) takes me to my profile page.

I was going to add a screenshot indicating the various parts of the email (just for the sake of it really), but adding pictures is not working at all. Once I click on Insert Image I get a box of text but no image. Are you able to let the relevant people know that image insertion is not working, or has the feature deliberately been disabled?

User uploaded fileThanks Phil, I'm still not quite sure exactly what triggers the "mentioned" emails, just copying the username link from the thread into the body doesn't seem to do it reliably. I'm also not sure whether I think they are a good or a bad thing. I like the idea that I might notice a thread where someone mentions my name so I can join in and assist if needed, but I worry about the implications when people are discussing troublemakers in the Lounge or Using ASC.

The image insert tool is working for me. Might be an idea to clear out your browser cache in case there is any legacy stuff from the previous software still being reused.

I wouldn't know, despite contributing to this forum for six years, and since five points have mysteriously disappeared from my profile this morning, I'm actually getting further away from being classed as a valued contributor. (That tells me something a lot!) Actually, I think that if such a link was added to a thread, anyone clicking on it would presumably see "you are not authorised to see this post" message. Funnily enough, I see it all the time in "branched to a new discussion" links.

Clearing the browser cache appears to have solved my "add images" issue. Thanks for that. Have you noticed that the facility to edit a post (for up to fifteen minutes after posting) has disappeared? Still, at least spell check is back.

We're reliably(?) informed that the 15 minute edit window will be restored as soon as they can work out how they lost it. 😝

The OP can still edit their first post for 15 minutes.

I lost a couple of points in the transition too. I think they effectively restored a backup from early Wednesday into the new version of Jive so probably lost 12 hours worth of postings. As I recall last time they did a pretty good job of pulling over the last posts and any points awarded, but it obviously isn't perfect.

OK, back to the problem this thread was started for. It happened again. Files that were modified earlier this week have been reverted back to a month ago (playing them updates the modified date to now).

I don't want to have to keep doing this every time I start up iTunes. Is there a way to disable the Cloud or changes WMP's settings so that it doesn't touch my files?

If these are iTunes Store purchases then in iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Store and turn off

  • Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
  • Share details about your library with Apple

On any iOS device go to Settings > Music and turn off

Show All Music

Close and reopen iTunes and/or reset the device and you should see your version of the metadata for each track rather than the original store data.
