Switched on my imac this morning and boot up failed with the final line (I'm on verbose boot)
SMC : :smcReadKeyAction ERROR: smcReadData8 failed for key BEMB (kSMCKeyNotFound)
Anyone know how I can remedy this so I can boot up the machine?
I'm running Mountain Lion.

Does it start in Safe mode or Recovery ?.
Hi Andy,
left the machine to boot in safe mode about an hour ago and it seems to have frozen. Apple logo and fixed cog on the screen.
Does Recovery work ?.
If so, use the Disk Utility there to backup, if you haven't done so recently; then use the Repair function to check for any drive errors.
No, looks like I don't have recovery installed. Looks like a trip to the Genius Bar on Monday... thanks for trying to help.
