SLVR L7 + iTunes + Music Store Music

Hello.
I have the motorola SLVR L7. I purchase music from the iTunes Music Store, and once I upgraded to iTunes 7 I was very excited because I always love updates. I then decided to purchase an album. I was excited to put the songs on my phone and they did transfer (it took the same amount of time as it used to so I'm assumeing it did transfer the songs) I went to play them off of my phone and it just kept changing the track. It would go from one song to another song until it hit some purchased music I had boughten in iTunes 6 or music I had downloaded from Purevolume that was dragged into iTunes 7. I looked at the info on the tracks and everything looks similar to the tracks purchased in iTunes 6.

Am I going to have to wait until a Phone Tools 1.1? Or am I just missing something. I did try to authorize my computer again, and that didn't change anything.
I've tried restarting my phone and computer and nothing changes.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Yes. I've seen the exact same problem. No messages to indicate what's going on. All of the purchased music that I got pre-iTunes 7 works fine, but nothing I bought using iTunes 7 will play on the SLVR.

I'd suspect that either a) the format of the music has changed slightly (unlikely) or b) iTunes 7 doesn't handle the DRM part of the copy to the SLVR correctly (likely).

I hope someone from Apple gets around to looking at this problem...

Yes, I have only had my slvr for two weeks and all songs are playing fine from imported cds. The tracks purchased with itunes 7 last night will not play it just shows the album artwork momentarily and then skips to next song. None of the purchased songs will play. A patch or solution is needed because this deters members from purchasing itunes which I do not think anyone at apple wants. Also jumping through hoops of converting songs to mp3 to play them is defeating the whole purpose of having an itunes player.

I found a work-around for this problem and can shed a little light on what is wrong. If you look at the files in your music folder where you keep all your uploaded songs, you will see that the extensions for previously downloaded songs was .mp3 - with itunes 7, the songs you purchase download as .m4p
If you look at the 'info' for the songs you will see that it now says (protected). This probably has something to do with marketing agreements. Anyway, I spend about an hour on the phone with Motorola and some more time with Apple. I don't know when (or if) they will ever fix this one but I have figured out a way to get around the problem, soon you'll be listening to your new music. Here's what I did. 1. burn a new cd with your purchased music. 2. drag your music from the your hd list to the trash. 3. now import your songs from the disk back into itunes. The new imported songs will be now be listed as .mp3 and will now play on your phone too. You'll have to decide if having the songs on your phone is worth wasting a blank cd to get them there. For me, it was worth it!

Thanks a lot, I didn't think about doing it that way. Appreciated!

Um, no. All tracks on the iTMS are .m4p and have been since Day 1 the store was opened. Typically, only songs downloaded from other non-Apple sites or those ripped from your own CDs might be MP3's. Apple has never ever sold an MP3 from the iTMS.

However, your answer to the problem remains a good one, and it is one which is also required for people to play their purchased music via players like Squeezebox and the Roku SoundBridge devices. It is annoying to burn and re-back, and I would highly recommend a very high (192kb+) bit rate, or, the best option is ALE. The reason being is that even the downloads from iTMS are only 128bit AAC files. That is still not even close to CD quality. If you re-rip off the burned CD, then the quality will degrade again, like a next-generation photocopy.

Here's my steps:
1) Download Protected AAC (M4P) files from iTMS
2) Burn to CD
3) Rip from CD using Apple Lossless
4) Convert tracks to 128bit AAC.
5) Put AAC files into playlist
6) Load playlist onto phone

This will cause loss of fidelity in step #4, but it's the only option as the phones require 128bit, I believe. But, because you have the max-quality ALE from the CD ripped back, you always have at least that quality file to fall back on.

Now, all that said, I'm very hopeful that Apple will fix whatever the problem is with the software which is causing us to do this workaround.

I also wish iTMS would offer ALE files...

I'm have the exact some problem with my SLVR. Newly purchased iTunes store music on iTunes 7 will play flawlessly on my Shuffle, Nano and on my Powerbook. On the SLVR it will just skip through them and play the any files previous to iTunes 7. I even tried Apple's 'fix' to deauthorize the computer and reauthorize it and even resetting the SLVR.
