Hello,
I have over 50 GB of photos on my computer and want to move them to an external hard drive. How do I do this?

Hello,

The simplest way is to connect the hard drive, make sure it is formatted correctly as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then simply drag and drop your iPhoto Library to that drive using the Finder.
If you want to move only a part of your iPhoto Library, and want to move the photos as image files and not as an iPhoto library, use the menu command "File > Export, Kind "Current"" to export selected photos. You could do this for each event separately, to create separate folders for each event.

Thanks! I thought it would be simple, but was chicken to do it without checking first!
Good luck! 🙂
Check your library in the new location thoroughly, before you delete it from the old location. and it is a good idea to check your backup, if it s current, before you move the library.
Yes! I was backing up with Time Machine while I sent the first query and will copy to ext. drive, test, and then remove photos from my hard drive (also, am testing first with movies (49 GB) as those are not as important)
Thanks!
