wi-fi connectivity: "no IPv4 address assigned"

Hi,

This began as an issue that I directed to my email server (Hotmail). Opening or sending emails would be impeded by the equivalent of scrolling on the webpage. Other web pages would similarly seem to 'catch' while they were loading or take a long time to load. Sometimes it would be fine, sometimes not. Midday is especially worse. It didn't matter which internet application I was using safari, firefox etc.

Hotmail support asked me to open Terminal application and type in a command, "sudo tcpdump -s 0 -A -i en0 –w ~/Desktop/trace.dmp" the response came up: "no IPv4 address assigned". I hunted around the internet and support but couldn't find any solutions.

I am using wi-fi and connecting to a TimeWarner modem.

According to the wi-fi icon, all bars are active.

In system preferences it says I am connected to wi-fi and lists an IP address beginning 192.168

In TCP/IP / Configure ipv / "using DHCP" is selected

The address, mask and router are all listed. The router number here, and the IP address above, are different.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

Macbook Pro

OS 10.9 Intel i5
