My older Shuffle not being recognized by iTunes. I changed ports, reinstalled, restarted Apple Mobile Device.......still does not show up in iTunes. website has recommended setting the host back to default???

I am not tech wise so don't want to do anything to mess up my laptop. What does "setting host back to default" mean and should I let the website do that?
