Disconnect internet first?

Why wouldn't I? I have to disconnect the internet from the old computer to plug it into the new one eventually, anyway. Maybe I should have used a gentler verb to indicate what I want to do?
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295 Explains how to work it. And yes places like http://www.macsales.com/ offer Firewire 6 pin to 9 pin connectors which can be connected to the Thunderbolt/Firewire adapter of modern Macs or just plain Firewire 800 port on older iMac Intels.
