configuration is ok with modem 'alice gate 2 plus wifi' ?

My environment has these components:

  1. 'Alice modem router gate 2 plus wifi' which is configured in 'bridged+routed' mode
  2. smart TV linked to Alice modem by ethernet cable
  3. media player linked to Alice modem by ethernet cable
  4. tower pc linked to Alice modem by ethernet cable
  5. Sky decoder linked to Alice modem by ethernet cable

Now I'm using wifi of Alice modem but I'm going to install my Airport Time Capsule, so I need suggestion to configure it.

My plan is to turn off Alice wifi, to disable 'bridge+router' mode in Alice modem and to activate only 'bridge mode'.

To link '2,3,4,5' components to my Time Capsule ethernet port (by small switch) and to link my Alice modem to Time Capsule WAN port.

I'd like to configure TimeCapsule DHCP to assign IP subnet different from Alice modem, I hope My TC can permit me to configure these parameters!

I'll turn on wifi network on TC.

I can configure in TC port forwarding ?

What do you think? Can it work ?

It is much easier to install the TC in bridge.

Leave the modem working as router exactly as it is now.

The reason is that TC does not handle PPPoE especially well and that is your only choice. If your ISP uses any other authentication than PPPoE it won't work. Also you will lose any secondary function like IPTV if you have that service.

In bridge the TC will work just fine.. there is no need for different subnets.. that will simply cause Double NAT issues and is to be avoided. Port Forwarding will not work.. all forwarding should be done in the existing router.

You don't even need to turn off wifi in the Alice modem.. simply use a different wireless name in the TC and they can work along side each other. If you run into trouble then you can turn off wifi in the modem or set its channel manually along with the TC.

I want to use ONLY the Apple TC wifi and to not have too complexity I'd like to keep all devices linked or to my router either to my TC.

So if I set TC in bridge mode, it's better to link all devices to my Alice router?

I'm not understanding bridge mode ... I can keeping same addressing for the 2 networks?!?

Example:

now my devices linked to Alice router have the addressing 192.168.1.0/24 and if I keep these links to this router, when I link TC I can keep the "192.168.1.0/24" addressing for devices linked to eth TC ?

In bridge the TC has no NAT.. it will receive an IP from the Alice. Just as any other client..

Any client plugged into the TC.. or via wifi, also gets its IP from the Alice.. you see the TC is not routing.. it is a dumb switch and a dumb WAP.

All clients are then on a single flat network and all can connect no matter if plugged into the Alice or into the TC.

Try it and see. It is often the best way to understand networks.

I would post a picture but that function is not working today..!!
