How to get rid of http://api.mybrowserbar.com/ on firefox

I've been noticing some issues for a while now on internet speed and overall computer speed. I just thought that my macbook pro was getting old (4.5 yrs) and I wasn't overly concerned...frustrated, but not overly concerned. But then in the past few days this http://api.mybrowserbar.com started coming up and giving me all kinds of issues. When I googled it I saw that it was malware, but all the directions to get rid of it are for pc. I also saw some things on the forum here, but they weren't specific to firefox and I am not technical (at all) so I wasn't sure about the differences.

Any suggestions? And please, keep it simple!!

Thanks!

Update July 2014: In Chrome settings, Extensions, mybrowserbar wasn't listed, but an unknown thing was, whose description matches the behavior others have described:

Domain Error Assistant 1.4

This extension saves you time by providing relevant search results instead of an error page

I disabled it and instantly the problem was gone. So, it appears that the scumware had just retitled itself.
