Video Clip Download Speed for Dial-up

How long would it take to download a 9MB video clip posted to a page in iWeb using a dialup internet connection? I'm not sure at what speed data travels in an avg. type dialup connection. I'm trying to determine how much compression to employ in QuickTime to make the size of video clips on my site more dialup friendly. Any advice on that w/b greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm not certain as I haven't used dial-up in awhile, but I remember that anything over 1 meg or 2 just wasn't worth my time to wait for it. You can always use tools to lower the size/quality of the video specifically for dialup users (many websites have low bandwidth and high bandwidth versions of their vids) this way, those that want to wait, can, those that want to see if it's worth waiting for can download the smaller version first.

Hey, found a nice chart for ya. Assuming that dialup is approximately 56k or less, you're looking at 2+ minutes per megabyte.

For anyone who is interested or may not have a calculater handy, it appers that avg. dialup speeds are around 56kbps. Plug that into the chart Kyn found in his post above and it'll take almost 21 minutes for the dialup user to download a 9MB file. At 56kbps it takes 2.3 minutes to get 1MB downloaded.
