Printing on 5.5" x 8.5" paper and other requests ....

Hello,

It would be greately appreciated to print on other paper format (1/2 letter page or other Day-Timer formats). I still use a paper version of my agenda and am used to do a daily printout of my agenda and edit everything each day on my computer before printing my next day's schedule.

It would also be appreciated to check the akward printout that you get from iCal's preview window. When I ask to print my daily calendar, it prints at the right of the calendar, a list of programmed events that are a duplicate of what you see in the agenda to the left. Also it duplicates scheduled task, showing the same tasks, 2 times.

As a since 1984 Apple customer, I am accustomed to have product without those obvious defects. I would like very much to use iCal instead of PalmDesktop, but iCal does not seem to be ready for hard work ... Hopefully Apple will correct all this in the next iCal's version that will be out with Leopard.

Thanks in advance.

You can! Just define a custom paper size in the Page Setup Menu pull down menu to Manage Paper Sizes in /Applications/Preview.

Add a new custom paper size and you should be able to select this paper size from iCal when printing the calendar. Not sure how to change the default Portrait/Landscape settings of iCal.

I like to print the Monthly calendar on two facing half-letter pages to fit Day Timer blank pre-punched 5-1/2x8 inch paper. To do this I print to a PDF file the monthly calendar on Letter size paper, and then use the ImageMagick convert utility to crop the PDF file into left and right sides of the month to print on the back and front of the Day Timer paper, respectively. Use the command-line in Terminal:

$ convert -crop 396x792 270 2007_calendar.pdf cal_left.pdf
$ convert -crop 396x792 3780 2007_calendar.pdf cal_right.pdf

This was my first attempt, you could play around with the crop limits, but you get the idea. Maybe someone could AppleScript or Workflow this...
