Three IPod Problems - since ITunes 7 and 1.2 updates

1.The IPod cannot be updated. Required file in use.

Tried emptying the trash but still get this message.

2. the IPod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application.
Only way to eject IPod is to close I tunes and do Apple/ E or drag icon to trash.

Both these problems came up right after the I Tunes 7 and IPod 1.2 software updates. 3.I also notice that in the IPod preferences in I Tunes 7 you were able to select which podcasts and playlists to update, I don't see that in the new prefs since the updates???????

I'm having the exact same problems. This seems awfully like one of the lovely error messages Mr Gates likes to drive Windows users mad with.

I'm having the same problems.

All started since upgrading to latest iTunes and iPod software. I tried restoring the iPod and at first it wouldn't let me. I held down the Option button while clicking Restore and it seemed to let me restore, but when the process finished nothing worked and all the items in my iPod list are dimmed and cannot be accessed.

I can't add item to the iPod, and I'm getting very irritated.

I tried resetting the iPod and currently am still on hold waiting for an Apple tech rep. God only knows if that will be any help.

Eureka. I talked to Apple and tracked down the cause of my problem. In my case, the problem was a conflict with Norton Anti-Virus. When I have Auto-Protect enabled in Norton's, I get the argument in iTunes. When I disable that feature, everything works fine.

If you're running anti-virus software, try disabling that. If not, try disabling any other third party software that may be running, and then check again.

Apple walked me through a Safe Boot, sort of a basic startup which shuts everything else off at startup. Hold the Shift key while starting up until you see the little spinning gear below the gray Apple logo. It may take a while, because the computer is inspecting the hard drive as it does this. Once you're booted up in Safe Boot mode. Launch iTunes and try connecting your iPod and see if you can do what you want without getting the argument. If so, you may have a third-party conflict. If you can track that conflict down, notify Apple so they can include it in their next iTunes version update.

I used to get the argument when I tried to eject the iPod through iTunes. Since I upgraded to iTunes 7, I get more arguments. Essentially, iTunes 7 had even more conflicts with Norton's. Hopefully, they'll fix it in future revisions.

Good luck

Strange, when I updated my iTunes to ver 7, and later on docked both my iPod nano and 60G iPod, the 60G iPod gets updated and all this while Norton Antivirus was on, but I know specifically in the media settings part of NAV I did not include the iPods to be scan.

My iPod updated perfectly fine and is running smoothly, I even manage to play Survivor 13-Cook Island on the TV, and seems like the resolution is now much better after they bump that up in the iTS

Cheers

I was having problems after the itunes update. It would not let me update my 5G IPOD. I was getting an Unknown Error 1417.

Then after reading a number of posts I decided to try something.

I had the IPOD set up to also be a removable drive (I can store files on it) and when I would plug it in it would do that wonderful folder search thing. I decided to cancel that when it came up. AND GUESS WHAT. IT updated wih no problems to this point.

I hope this helps some. There used to be an option to whether or not let your IPOD be enabled for Disk Use, turning it off may work as well, or just hit cancel when you see the small folder search window pop up.

Looks like I have other problems now. I can't sync music with the pod. It hangs up and makes my computer work very hard from the sounds of it. Was this really an update or a way to force us to all buy new ipods and computers? My dad's computer was destroyed by an apple update. Caused the fan to never stop and it burned itself up. Is this how apple does things now?
