My iPad Air when charging cuts in and out, also the charger is extremely hot. Have tried different chargers with and power outlets, all with the same outcome.

The troubling thing to me is the fact that the charger gets extremely hot - according to what you are saying. The charger can get warm and can get fairly warm when the iPad is charging, but it should never get extremely hot. Make an appointment at an Apple Store, take the iPad, the cable and the charger with you and ask them to look at everything for you.
