Q: Lion server dropping client machines

I'm running a Lion server (10.7.5) on a Mac mini server. It has been running well for a couple of years, until late April when I did a software update on it. Three times now, including the day after doing the updates, all clients have lost connection from the server without warning. VPN is also inaccessible. ARD says that it's offline.

I run the server headless, so have to get a monitor, keyboard, and mouse from other places to find out what's wrong. From the server end, everything looks fine. All the services are running, everything seems to be performing well, except that it can't access the Internet (but the Ethernet is connected, with a green dot). I've checked the switch, and there's no problem with that. All the cables are fine. I've scoured the logs for any sign of trouble, and there's nothing to see except for the regular messages. I'm at a loss of what to do. The only way to get it going again is to restart the server completely (restarting the services makes no difference, neither does reconnecting the ethernet cable).

Has anyone else come across this issue or can give me an idea of what to do about it?

Thanks.
