Power Mac G5 - Any Keyboard and Mounse

Hello,

I have a G5 (A1117/A1177* (EMC 2023)). I do not have the original keyboard and mouse. I tried a usb windows keyboard and mouse, but it does not seem to recognize them? The system will boot into the main screen but I get a message that it is looking for a keyboard? Do I need to use an original keyboard and mouse for the system to work?

Thanks Jr

No. However, I would recommend getting an Apple compatible keyboard from Logitech, MacAlly, or Microsoft. Yes all three work fine on older models. I've also sometimes found that an older Mac will recognize newer keyboards better if you boot them into open firmware first. alt-windows key-o-f (command-option-o-f on a Mac keyboard)

At the prompt type mac-boot followed by the return key. That may also be a sign you need to replace the PRAM battery.
