Q: Video players for powerBook G4

Greetings,

Recently my friend gifted me Powerbook G4 with 10.5.8 version. I am unable to install the video players like VLC,REALTIME.

Kindly suggest the players for this version & I want to upgrade it to higher version, is this possible and how?

What problems do you have with installing VLC?

If you  are asking about upgrading your Mac OSX version, you cannot. No PowerBook can run higher than OS 10.5.8. They have PowerPC (PPC) processors; 10.6 and later require Intel processors. Fortunately you will see in Klaus's link that VLC still offers a PowerPC version for OS 10.5.8

VLC has an older version which works with PPC Macs.  You cannot install the newest VLC.

I also use NicePlayer, Quicktime, and MPlayer.  Some exotic things such as flv seem to work with some and not others.

Remember, you are limited by hardware too.  Nothing on a PPC will give you smooth playback with HD video.

Unless it is Quicktime Sorenson based compression.   This compression was way ahead of its time, and offered HD quality video even on a G3/233 Mhz with 512k backside.   Wish the world had adopted it instead of Flash.
