    For the Xserve hardware:

    OS X Mavericks: System Requirements

The Xserve RAID is known as a DAS (directly attached storage) device and provided the HBA card you're planning to use is fully supported in whatever server platform you've chosen (Apple, Microsoft etc) it will be work regardless of OS version.

the subject is mistakenly written as iOS 9. Clearly the author means OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).  With regard to xserve and the hardware raid card, I am using Mavericks and OS X Server with my old xserve 2008 with hardware raid and a 300GB x 3 15k SAS drive config. I believe I started having a raid card kernel panic about once a month since upgrading to Mavericks. I don't know if it is is just age of hardware or the upgrade to OS X 10.9 on the "unsupported' xserve 2008. YMMV.
