How do I become an Apple Beta Tester?

Apple now has two beta testing programs:

1. Invited beta program where you have the advantages of feedback and discussions.

2. The Public Beta Program where Apple admits a specified number of participants to both the iOS and Mac OS X testing.

With both programs you MAY NOT discuss that you are even a participant, much less the material you are testing on ANY public discussion site. That includes the Apple Support Communities. You will notice that the hosts remove any posts dealing with beta software very quickly.

Participate in these Communities and make a reputation, register when Apple opens up the Public Beta registration...those are your best approaches.

Is the 99 dollars a one time fee ? Or is it yearly

The beta program Ralph explained wasn't for testing a phone, it was for testing software. Apple doesn't use the public to test hardware.

For iOS you have to join the developer program, pay the $99 fee, and then use that membership to get he beta software. For Mac OS X you have to be invited to join the program, you cannot apply. Or, you can join the public beta when there is another open enrollment.

Each beta program requires signing Non Disclosure Agreements with Apple.

IS it an illegal act to download the IOS 9 beta software for personal use alone as well as feedback for Apple without being a mmember of the development program? I just don't want to pay $100 and only be able to download iOS 9 for testing, that is all I will be using it for and I just think that it is a waste of money to pay just to help Apple. I love Apple and refuse using any other device besides my Sony Playstation 3®, and I want to help Apple by Downloading the ios9 software and giving feed back. Any help would be appreciated. In addition, downloading beta software from a pirate or other site without authorization will have the nasty side effect of no support whatsoever if you run into problems. You will be completely on your own to resolve your problems.
