Q: Add to contact to specific address book?

Hello- When I right click and choose 'add contact to address book' from within Apple mail, it adds the contact to the 'On My Mac' address book file. I want it to add the contact to a different address book. Is there a way to designate a specific default address book?

Thx!

Hmm… Am I the only one that has ever noticed this in email/contacts?

    Thx.

What other AddressBook do you want to add? Are you thinking of groups?

I use iCloud and don't have a local "On My Mac" AddressBook. I could add a Google, Yahoo, Exchange or other account, to get an AddressBook for that account. Is this what you are asking to save to?

Hello- Good question and should have been more specific (people don't read minds on this forum? )

I have an exchange server that is accessed from within Addressbook. I'm talking about that.

In reality, people could use Google Contacts, Exchange, Kerberos, whatever.

    Thx!

See the instructions here to set a default account. In your case, select your Exchange account.

    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/83475/can-the-default-contact-store-for -mountain-lion-be-icloud

According to this link Address Book Accounts Basics (with iCloud) However in Mavericks this is no longer an option.

    Default Account

Your 'default' account is set in address book preferences > general (the option is only displayed if you have more than one account). This option determines which account will be used for new contacts when you choose to view your Address Book by 'All Contacts' (i.e. viewing all accounts at once) or when you add contacts from Mail. Note; When adding contacts via the Address Book when only one account is selected for viewing, new contacts will be added to the account being viewed.

FYI... Mavericks Mail and Exchange have not had a happy relationship. Most of the problems have been resolved, but I would research more thoroughly if you are considering upgrading to Mavericks any time soon.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for the help. Exactly what I was looking for.

So let me get this straight, starting with Mavericks, Apple is choosing to create an even smaller island for it's customers and thus, itself?

Wow! I feel like I'm back in the late 80s again.. Apple successfully isolating itself in arrogance. This is a bummer to see happen. It's easy to see where this will lead.

I just read that Mavericks+ doesn't work well with Google or Exchange - Does Apple have ANY friends anywhere? I'm an old Apple user from the 70s and I'm totally bummed out to see them repeating their critical errors from the late 80s/90s Their arrogance will be their fall once again.. BUMMER!

    Thx for the help!

I have to admit I don't understand many of the choices they have made. Best advice is to send Apple feedback to let them know how you feel. My most posted feedback is to offer an ergonomic keyboard for users that can't use a regular keyboard. Handicap friendly is not what I call the current keyboards.

Mavericks works very well with Exchange (I use 2010 and an occasional 2007 server), nothing works well with Google, it's a non standard mess.
