Looking to connect camcorder JVC GR-DA30U to iMac 27"

Hey group!

Wondering how I could connect my mini dv camcorder to my mac and transfer the video to the computer. My camcorder only came with cord for playback on TV and the power cord, but nothing for the computer, especially a Mac. The manual refers to a Dv cable (http://www.manualslib.com/manual/82290/Jvc-Gr-Da30u.html?page=30#manual) and says "When using a DV cable, be sure to use the optional JVC VC-VDV206U or VC-VDV204U DV cable depending on the type of DV connector (4 or 6 pins) on the PC". Even with this information, I am not sure what cords and/or adapters I would need to make this work. Any tips?

Currently running Mavericks with Thunderbolt and a FireWire 800 port. Thanks!

I thought my computer had both thunderbolt and firewire 800 port, but I will confirm that. I was thinking a FireWire 400/800 would work?

The ony iMac's that had both FW and Thunderbolt were 2011 models, is that what you have? Without knowing what iMac you have we are really guessing. BTW I would recommend looking to see if that camera is compatible with the version of iMovie you have. I am assuming you want to edit your movies in iMovie though. Apple provides http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html?lang=en_US I would recommend using it.
