Why is mapping services eating all my data?

THis is a serious problem, the other day my iPhone stopped chowing my data at 490 mb! It used up all the little data I had left. I have tuned off all location services, user and diagnostic services, even all my app data in cellular settings, nothing, still kept on eating up all my data, I'm not one of those lucky people who have access to wifi, now im left without data. I have seen similar complaints but only from some people, Apple, you need to fix this!

I have suspicions that Apple is collecting data to upgrade their map database, please apple, can you stop this? I didn't even give consent, and you have caused me to lose allot of money, I have been a loyal Apple customer, and spent well over 15k on apple products, i have NEVER been upset, until now, I'm SO disappointed! How do i have any guarantee that this kind of thing wont happen again? This kind of thing will force me to move to another platform, even though i don't want to ;( I CANT AFFORD THIS KIND OF DATA USAGE! This Apple, is unacceptable! =(

this is in iOS7 7.1.1, on my iPhone 5S

I am having precisely the same problem. Currently in Vanuatu (island group in the south Pacific) where I purchased 2Gb of data on a 3G network here. To my shock, within two days I had used almost 450 Mb of data, almost entirely due to system services and primarily mapping services. I did not use maps, neither Google nor Apple, ever since arriving here, so I really do wonder what could possibly justify gobbling up so much data. All location services are also turned off, as are app background refresh. I have resorted to turning of ALL data when I do not actively use it to prevent these so-called services from abusing my data.

Data usage past 48 hours:

- Skype 10Mb

- Personal hotspot 50Mb

- Safari 12Mb

- WhatsApp 1.2Mb

- GMail 2.8Mb

- Banking apps <1Mb

- System services including iTines 34Mb

- MAPPING SERVICES 342Mb ???????
