A MicroFiber cloth was the cleaning method Apple recommended for a few years when hey came out with the oleophobic coating on the iPhone, iPod and iPad. The first iPads even came with a piece of the cloth.

Apple does not recommend use of liquids for cleaning as any liquid getting inside spells disaster. If you feel you must use moisture, make sure the cloth piece is very well wrung out, not wet, only slightly damp. And do not wipe over any openings such as home button, ear outlet, or edges of the glass. Then dry very thoroughly.
